My new Brunswick apartment has recurring drain problems. Whose responsibility is it?
As a general guide, drainage serving only your apartment is usually the lot owner’s responsibility, shared stacks and common lines are usually the owners corporation’s, and the sewer main in the street belongs to Yarra Valley Water. In newer Brunswick buildings the fault is frequently at the connection between the building’s drainage and the older main, which is a different conversation again. A CCTV inspection identifies where the problem physically sits, which is the starting point for all of it.
